KOTA KINABALU: More Barisan Nasional members are pledging support for the Parti Warisan Sabah-led government because they do not recognise Sabah BN chief Musa Aman’s administration.
Chief Minister Shafie Apdal said Musa had clearly lost the confidence of the elected representatives.
“Definitely, they see there is no government any more in Musa’s administration.
“So I don’t know how Musa can claim to be the chief minister when he clearly doesn’t have the confidence of most the state assemblymen,” he said to reporters camped at his house here today.
The Warisan president said this after four more Barisan Nasional reps pledged their support to Shafie as their chief minister.
Sugut assemblyman James Ratib (Umno), Pitas assemblyman Bolkiah Ismail (Umno), Kuala Penyu assemblyman Limus Jury (Upko) and Kuamut assemblyman Masiung Banah visited Shafie at his residence at 3.05pm today.
Masiung was recently announced as the youth and sports minister and Bolkiah as the industrial development minister in Musa’s cabinet on Thursday.
Shafie pointed out that due to Upko, the first Sabah BN component party to quit the coalition, aligning itself with the Warisan-PH pact, Masiung’s and Limus’ entry into the fold was a formality.
However, he is still considering the wishes of the two Umno elected reps to join Warisan.
“They have expressed their intentions to join but let me look into that,” he said, adding he was aware of the reluctance of Warisan supporters in accepting more BN reps into the fold.
“What is clear is that they came to pledge their support for me.”
With the inclusion of the two Upko reps, Warisan-Pakatan Harapan now has 37 assemblymen.
Musa Aman was sworn in as the CM after obtaining a simple majority of 31 seats to form the state government on Thursday.
However, Shafie garnered 35 seats the following day due to six BN reps ditching the coalition. He was then sworn in as CM late Saturday.
Speaking to reporters after his swearing in, Shafie said he was the rightful chief minister because Musa had lost the confidence of the state assembly and did not have the majority to retain the state government.
As such, he said Musa should tender his resignation or dissolve the assembly, provided he obtained consent from the Sabah governor.
However, Musa has not resigned and rubbished news reports he had done so, pointing out that he had chaired the first Sabah Cabinet meeting on Saturday.
