Supporters and party members make a day trip just to catch PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim's first public appearance in three years.
PETALING JAYA: Padang Serai MP M Karupaiya came with 40 PKR supporters just to hear the party’s de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim speak.
“The legend is back. Now we have him and Dr Mahathir Mohamad to save the country,” he told FMT.
“We know Anwar can bring change. We just thought that when he is released, we will still be living under the BN government.”
But now, Karupaiya said that not only has PH wrested Putrajaya, but Anwar was released early.
Karupaiya and the rest of the supporters left Padang Serai in Kedah early this morning to attend Anwar’s rally here in Petaling Jaya and will go home tonight.
Homemaker Leong Fei Kee, meanwhile, came with 26 others from Melaka.
“I’m very happy because Anwar is free today. I’ve been supporting him since my student days when the Reformasi movement started.”
Leong says she has made the effort to attend as many Anwar ceramahs as she can, whether in Melaka or KL, so the journey today wasn’t unusual.
On her idol’s teaming up with his former nemesis, Mahathir, Leong said she didn’t mind as it was all in the past.
“It’s not about me, or my future even. We have to support what’s best for our children.”
It will be Anwar’s first public appearance in three years.
Some 500 people have gathered for the event, which is scheduled to start soon.
Anwar who was released and given a full pardon by the King today, is expected to arrive at 10pm.
