Satesh Kumar, sub-inspector of the Uchipuli police station, told The Star that Devasuria Subramaniam from Kuala Lumpur will return to Malaysia tomorrow with her four-year-old son.
Devasuria’s troubles came to public attention when a video she posted on Facebook about what she had been undergoing went viral.
In the video, Devasuria claimed to be living in a state of perpetual fear.
She alleged that members of her husband’s family, especially her mother-in-law, had been abusing and threatening her to the extent that her life was under threat.
According to DTnext.in, local police said that Devasuria and her husband, who is from the area, had come to India with their son three months ago.
But she found it difficult to adjust to the conditions in the area.
When she initially wanted to return to Kuala Lumpur, her mother-in-law demanded that Devasuria leave her son behind.
Devasuria told police she never wanted to return to her in-laws’ home, even going so far as to prefer living in a women’s shelter.
The Malaysian High Commission in India, the Immigration Department, and the police in the Ramanathapuram district worked together to allow Devasuria to return to Malaysia.
