SHAH ALAM: The investigating officer in the Kim Jong Nam murder case brought airport recordings to the High Court to show the four individuals still at large over Jong Nam’s death had plotted the murder with the two accused women.

ASP Wan Azirul Nizam Che Wan Azizi said one of the four men, known only as Hanamori, masterminded the attack at klia2 on Feb 13 at 9am.

“Before the incident, Hanamori had met two men, known as Mr Chang and Mr Y, around 7.30am at a restaurant near the departure hall and they were seen discussing something.

“Both of them met Hanamori in the restaurant separately but these were only two minutes apart,” he said, in explaining the Feb 13 closed circuit television (CCTV) camera recordings.

The CCTV recordings showed Hanamori, also known as “grandpa” or “uncle”, as a man in his 50s and wearing a purple shirt.

However, images of Mr Chang and Mr Y could not be seen clearly as they were wearing caps and they had their backs to the CCTV cameras.

Previously, police had identified four North Korean suspects in Jong Nam’s death as Ri Ji Hyon, Hong Song Sac, O Jong Gil and Ri Jae Nam.

They are believed to have fled Malaysia the day he was killed.

Police had sought Interpol’s help in February to arrest them.

Indonesian Siti Aisyah and Vietnamese Doan Thi Huong are standing trial on a charge of murdering the estranged half-brother of North Korean supreme leader Kim Jong Un on Feb 13.

Jong Nam, the eldest son of former North Korean leader Kim Jong Il, arrived in Malaysia on Feb 6, and was at klia2 to board a 9am flight to Macau on the day he was killed.

He died on the way to Putrajaya Hospital, sparking a diplomatic row between Putrajaya and Pyongyang.

During the opening statement on the first day of trial (Oct 2), the prosecution said it would prove that the two women approached Jong Nam at the airport’s departure hall and sprayed VX nerve agent on his eyes and face.

Prosecutors told the court the actions of Siti Aisyah and Doan showed that they intended to cause Jong Nam’s death.

Azirul added Mr Y had taken Doan for a walk around klia2 before 8am “as if they were looking around the airport” before the alleged murder took place.

Meanwhile, Mr Chang had met Siti Aisyah at the same restaurant at 8.10am and had given her a taxi ticket, he added.

The policeman said both Mr Chang and Mr Y had also changed their clothes after the alleged murder.

“Mr Chang had even shaved off his beard after the incident,” Azirul said, adding the duo may have an agenda to hide as they intentionally changed their clothes.

The hearing continues on Nov 6 before Justice Azmi Ariffin with Azirul bringing more airport recordings of another individual at large, known as James.
