According to The New Straits Times, the fire reportedly started on the first floor of the Pasar Besar at around 7.36pm.
State Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis told the daily that about 90 per cent of the stalls located on the first floor were damaged in the fire.
Not only is the Pasar Besar Seremban an iconic landmark in the small city -- it has been around since 1975 -- but also one of its best food spots.
Located on the first floor of the wet market, the Pasar Besar is home to some of Seremban's most famous dishes. In fact, they are so popular, people from all over Malaysia would stop by the Pasar Besar just to indulge on some cheap, good food.
While it was business as usual for the main wet market downstairs, there's no telling when (or if ever) the food stalls will be re-opened to public.
So, while we wait for the renovation and restoring work to take place, we'll definitely miss these made-in-Seremban dishes:
1) Tow Kee Hakka Mee (Stall 810)
2) Hioong Kee Mee Hoon Sotong (Stall 753)
Mee hoon Sotong is one of Seremban's local specialties, and Hioong Kee is one of the best stalls in the city that serves it. A plate of mee hoon sotong consists of mee hoon noodles that are slightly fried, slices of braised pork, slices of cuttlefish and topped off with thick, flavourful, almost soup-like gravy. This is the perfect meal to start your day with as it's not too filling.
3) Ching Kee Lai Fun (Stall 803)
If you're a fan of lou shu fun (rice noodles), Ching Kee Lai Fun is the place to be. One of the oldest stalls in Pasar Besar Seremban, Ching Kee serves homemade lai fun (it's similiar to lou shu fun, but slightly longer and thicker) made with the recipe that, according to legends, has been passed down for generations. The dish is only served one way at Ching Kee: dry with a hint of dark soy sauce and minced meat.
4) Beef Noodle (Stall 748)
