KUALA LUMPUR: The process of releasing Anwar Ibrahim will be carried out at the Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital here without requiring the PKR de facto leader to be brought back to the Sungai Buloh Prison.

PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution said Anwar was expected to be released after the Pardons Board meets at 11am tomorrow to discuss the application for his release and full pardon.

“So, we expect (the release) will be at noon tomorrow and this will be followed by a gathering in the afternoon in Petaling Jaya,” he told reporters after visiting Anwar at the hospital today.

Yesterday, Istana Negara official Ahmad Dahlan Ab Aziz said Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V had consented that all procedures regarding the Pardons Board proceedings on Anwar be finalised tomorrow.

Anwar began his five-year jail sentence in February 2015 after the Federal Court upheld his guilty verdict on the charge of sodomising his former personal assistant.

Anwar, who was imprisoned at the Sungai Buloh Prison, was scheduled to be freed on June 8 after having served two-thirds of his sentence.
