Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng says members of his administration and the state assemblymen will be declaring their assets on March 31.
GEORGE TOWN: Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng today announced that the members of his administration, together with the state assemblymen, would be declaring their assets on March 31.
Lim said the matter was decided during the state executive council meeting.
“We had previously declared our assets in 2013. We do it at the beginning and the end of the term of the state government.
“Since our term is ending, we will make our declaration on March 31. The full list of declarations will be uploaded onto the official state government portal at www.penang.gov.my,” he told a press conference today.
Lim said this was one of their integrity measures to ensure a government that is clean and free from corruption, and also to fulfil the state’s mantra of being competent, accountable and transparent.
He said Penang MPs who were keen on declaring their assets were welcomed to do so.
The then Penang Pakatan Rakyat (PR) assemblymen and exco members had declared their assets in August 2013. While it was the second time for the state executive councillors to do so, it was the first time that the assemblymen had declared their assets, as part of the 13th general election manifesto.
The announcement comes on the back of a second round of asset declaration carried out by Invoke Malaysia, in which Amanah president Mohamad Sabu joined dozens of elected representatives and possible Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidates in declaring their assets through Invoke.
Mohamad, better known as Mat Sabu, is the only party president who has done so from among the four parties in the opposition coalition.
In the first round, about 30 opposition representatives pledged to sign a contract (“Akujanji Khidmat Rakyat”) with Invoke to declare their assets for the 14th general election.
