Subra: Checks found no drugs in original premixed coffee

The health minister says the contaminated packet was the one found in a rubbish bin and distributed by unknown persons.

Dr-S-Subramaniam-cofferBENTONG: Checks by the health ministry found no trace of foreign chemicals in the original packet of pre-mixed coffee that caused two security guards to experience extreme fatigue and weakness after consuming it recently.

Health Minister Dr S Subramaniam said the contaminated packet was the one that was obtained from a rubbish bin and distributed by unidentified people.

“We leave it to the police to conduct a full investigation into this matter. It is now beyond the ministry’s jurisdiction.

“However, monitoring will continue to be done from time to time,” he told reporters after opening the Special Implementation Taskforce (SITF) centre at Taman Sentosa here today.

He was asked to comment on the latest development on the issue relating to the pre-mixed coffee, which was believed to have contained drugs.

It was earlier reported that test results from the Chemistry Department showed the urine and blood samples contained a type of synthetic drug which is already in the market but rarely used by drug addicts.

The drug causes fatigue and weakness.
