PBS CNY a celebration of BN unity

KOTA KINABALU: The annual Chinese New Year celebration by multiracial Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) today once again saw full Sabah BN unity, with presidents of all BN component parties in Sabah in attendance.

United Pasok Momogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (Upko) acting president Madius Tangau arrived early, together with other Upko leaders, quashing rumours that both parties do not see eye to eye, especially after their leaders and members publicly lobbied for Kadazandusun Murut (KDM) majority seats.

Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) president Teo Chee Kang also came, followed by Sabah Gerakan chairman Gordon Leong and Sabah MIC chairman V Jothy.

Chief minister Musa Aman led Umno leaders to the function, including Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Rahman Dahlan and Sabah Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Jainab Ahmad Ayid.

Attributing this show of unity to the spirit of friendship and brotherhood within BN, Musa said this was the reason the BN could develop Sabah.

“In Sabah, we have always been united and I hope it will continue to be this way because as long as we can cooperate with each other, it is easier to manage the state,” he said when speaking to reporters later.

Musa admitted he was elated to see the level of unity among the people and their leaders, including community leaders who also attended the event in droves.

“My wish this year would be to see that BN continues to rule the state so that we can maintain this level of unity among the people,” he said.

PBS president Joseph Pairin Kitingan, who played host, expressed hope that the people would continue to give the mandate to the BN in the coming election.

“What we see today, the unity and peace and harmony enjoyed by the people is all thanks to BN’s continuous efforts.

“As we can see, what BN has done all this while has already borne fruit. It has ensured steady and sustained development which has benefited Sabahans.

“I think this is why we should be thankful and grateful to BN and continue to support the government that has a proven track record,” he said.
