KUALA LUMPUR: The Pangsapuri Dewan Badaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) at Kampung Sungai Udang in Segambut here will be the first of its kind once construction is completed next year.

Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the 1,200-unit apartment building is being built specifically for youths and young married couples to live temporarily before owning their own residence.

“The homes, being built at a cost of RM300 million over 2.2ha, is currently 30% completed.

“It will have various basic facilities such as a hall, surau, parking spaces and futsal courts.

“Tenants need to pay rental of RM800 for five years to DBKL. We will keep RM300 from the amount as a deposit for them and this will be returned once they can afford to buy their own home through the Federal Territories Affordable Housing Programme.

“Although the concept of this city council home is to provide a short-term solution, it is hoped it will ease the burden of youths to build up their lives.”

He was speaking after opening the “1Wilayah Persekutuan Kenduri” programme for the Segambut parliamentary constituency here today.

Tengku Adnan said registration would be opened in the near future. A screening process would be implemented to ensure only the eligible were given priority.

“At the same time, two more similar projects will be developed in Kampung Kerinchi and Bandar Tun Razak.”
