KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) has accused Parti Warisan Sabah of being hypocritical with regards to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) issue.
Its acting Youth chief, Christopher Mandut, told FMT he found it quite funny that some Warisan leaders were going gung ho about reclaiming Sabah’s rights under the MA63 but the party’s top man chose to keep quiet about it.
“Warisan president Shafie Apdal did not mention Malaysia Agreement even once in his most recent speech in Parliament.
“During the whole 17 minutes, the bulk of it was spent on justifying himself and abusing the parliamentary immunity to slander Chief Minister Musa Aman.
“Why didn’t he mention the Malaysia Agreement at all? Is he afraid of perhaps Dr Mahathir Mohamad who we all know is not a friend of Sabah and Sabah’s rights?”
Mandut said he sympathised with other Warisan leaders who are working hard to educate and raise awareness among the people about the agreement and Sabah’s rights.
He said it was a shame that these hardworking people are now realising that their boss does not care much about their work anyway.
He continued that the action by Warisan vice-president Junz Wong to file a motion at the Sabah assembly to table the reinstatement of special state rights under the MA63 did not reflect Shafie’s stance on the matter.
“It is quite possible that Shafie actually knows nothing about MA63 and only uses it to confuse the people with his ‘Sabahan for Sabah’ slogan.”
On the other hand, Mandut said PBS had been very consistent about Sabah’s rights since its inception.
Compared to Shafie, he said PBS acting president Dr Maximus Johnity Ongkili had been consistently speaking for Sabah and Sabahans in Parliament despite being in the Barisan Nasional.
“PBS has remained steadfast in our struggles, regardless of who is the prime minister because we are not beholden to anyone.
“I am not accusing Shafie of anything except the apparent insincerity in his political struggle right now,” he said.
