Former Selangor MB says he was fair to the stakeholders in Selangor's water restructuring exercise.
KUALA LUMPUR: Former Selangor menteri besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim is unfazed over Puncak Niaga Holding Bhd’s RM14 billion suit, saying he had done his work for the good of the people.
“No, I am not worried,” he told reporters when asked about the suit at the Dewan Rakyat today.
Khalid, who was menteri besar from 2008 to 2014, said he had been fair to the stakeholders in Selangor’s water restructuring exercise.
“From my point of view, I paid more than the fair price,” he added.
When asked why Puncak Niaga was still dissatisfied, Khalid said people are not happy when they do not get what they want.
When asked if the RM14 billion quantum sought by Puncak Niaga was excessive, he said: “I cannot comment as I have not seen the court submission.”
Yesterday, The Edge reported that the water supply company had initiated a suit against the Selangor government, Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali, and Khalid over a takeover of the state’s water industry.
Puncak Niaga claimed the defendants had abused their powers by threatening to cause the federal government to invoke the use of the Water Services Industry Act 2006 (WSIA) to force the takeover.
In a filing to Bursa Malaysia, Puncak Niaga reportedly said that the Selangor government was vicariously liable for the acts of Khalid, and Azmin who succeeded him.
Case management will be held at the Shah Alam High Court on Nov 28.
In 2014, the Selangor government and Putrajaya signed a memorandum of understanding which would see the state take over the four water concessionaires operating in the state.
Under Selangor’s water restructuring exercise, the state government took over water assets previously belonging to Puncak Niaga, Syabas and Konsortium Abbas, worth over RM6 billion.
Only water assets belonging to Syarikat Pengeluar Air Sungai Selangor Sdn Bhd (Splash) have yet to be taken over by the state government.
