State police chief Hasanuddin Hassan said however that people were not prohibited from travelling to Thailand.

“We do not want any unwanted incidents like that of a Kelantanese who was fatally hit by a stray bullet in Takbai, two days ago.

“The situation is still not peaceful and there are still blasts and shots which pose danger to the public,” he said after an event at Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) here yesterday.

In the incident, Wan Mohd Zain Hussain, 46, from Kampung Ketil, Tumpat, was fatally shot by a stray bullet from a group of armed individuals at a checkpoint in Kampung Cek He, Takbai.

The incident took place at 9.30pm (Thailand time). The victim had been riding pillion on a motorcycle through the checkpoint when a group of four armed men in a pick-up truck opened fire at the police there.
