Gatco land sale: MACC detains man

The important witness is a liquidator, says MACC chief.

macc-gatco-1PORT DICKSON: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained a man linked to the sale of land in Kampung Serampang Indah, which was previously known as Gatco Estate in Jempol.

MACC chief commissioner Dzulkifli Ahmad said a 69-year-old man was held after he came to the MACC office in Putrajaya to have his statement recorded.

“Today, we have taken the statement of an important witness who managed the transfer of land and we have detained him.

“The man is a liquidator. Investigations are still in progress,” he told reporters here today.

He was met after the launching of the 2017 Anti-Corruption Expedition (Kejar’17) in conjunction with the Negeri Sembilan level MACC 50th anniversary celebration by Menteri Besar Mohamad Hasan.

On Aug 29, four MACC officers visited the office of the Local Government Unit at the state secretariat building here to obtain information on the issue.

The Gatco Estate issue began when settlers were unhappy with the sale of the plantation.

Meanwhile, Dzulkifli said other states should emulate the move of the Negeri Sembilan state government in ensuring not only the state leadership but also all departments and agencies as well as the people supported the Anti-Corruption Revolution Movement (Gerah).

“What we want to produce is a Malaysian community which will say no to corruption.

“If nobody offers, then there will be no recipients. So this is what we want to do,” he said.

Friends of Gerah was launched on Aug 1 to give the opportunity to the people to be involved with MACC in the effort to prevent and combat corruption.
