The Star reported on Tuesday that Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will be presenting a proposal to the Cabinet to tax Facebook and Google advertisements.
“I will bring this matter to the Cabinet for discussion tomorrow (March 14),” Ahmad Zahid told the English daily.
The decision for the proposal came after a dialogue session with editors and publication permit holders.
The suggestion for the tax was actually proposed by Star Media Group group managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, who reportedly came to know that Vietnam has been taxing those who advertise on Google and Facebook.
Well, no word yet on how much they intend to tax you just yet and what is the relevance behind it, so we’ll have to wait and see until the government formally announces it.
