Baling MP says the annual event, held for the eighth time, is aimed at helping to ease financial burden during festive season.
KUALA KETIL: More than 6,000 Indians from Baling parliamentary constituency were treated to new saris and kurtas in conjunction with the upcoming Deepavali celebration.
Baling MP Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim said the annual event, held for the eighth time, was aimed at helping to ease the community’s financial burden during the festive season.
“Today, over 3,000 Indians receive donations. In total, we spent over RM700,000 for the contributions, including cash and food hampers.
“In conjunction with the festive season too, more than 100 Indian community houses have been repaired,” he told reporters after handing over the aid here today.
Meanwhile, a recipient, Puspathi Valoo, 53, said she was deeply touched by the donations which were also given to her paralysed mother, Kutamah Perumal, 77.
